Launch of SmarterScene Service

The perfect complement to the virtual swatch lets your customers see your products in context. Based in Flash, each movie is built on an image of a room in which your range of products can be prominently displayed. Active areas in the roomset are highlighted when the mouse is moved across them and following a drag and drop operation from a menus of thumbnails, the selected product will be displayed in position. Both shadows and highlights are rendered such that the result is a photorealistic image of the room re-designed by your customer.

Launch of SmarterSwatch Service

Totallytextures now offers the production of virtual swatches as a service. Simply provide the physical samples required and Totallytextures will do the rest. Quite literally get your website moving with this rich internet content.

Commercial Release of the t3D Software Suite

Totallytextures announced the release of its cutting edge software suite which features two primary applications: t3D-scan and t3D-designer.

t3D-scan literally adds an extra dimension to the ordinary office flatbed scanner: it produces stunning 3D data in high resolution from a small number of scans of a physical sample. Digitise your library of surfaces with t3D-scan today to place all of your textures at your fingertips.

t3D-designer is a 3D visualisation tool specifically designed for working with textures. It provides a photorealistic illuminated 3D environment in which to explore textures which have been digitised with t3D-scan. t3D-designer is a real-time rendering application: the fact that the scene instantly refreshes upon user interaction through intuitive mouse movement is a significant advantage. This feature faciliates a rapid assessment of a texture and its combination with any number of new colour pattern designs.

Totallytextures in Research Councils Competition Final

Totallytextures reached the final of the Research Councils business plan competition. The UK-wide competition invited applicants from all of the eight divisions (including medical, engineering & physical sciences, biotechnology & biological sciences) with a view to encouraging academics to develop their innovative, cutting-edge technologies into commercially viable services and products. The overall objective is to help commercialise some of the best projects so that the whole of UK society can benefit. The competition finalists have all produced fully detailed business plans and will showcase their ideas Dragon's Den-style in the final.

Technology Strategy Board Success

Totallytextures has been awarded TSB funding for a feasibility study.

Release of t3D-designer Version 2.0

t3D-designer has undergone a major upgrade in terms of its user interface as part of Totallytextures' commitment to continuous product improvement. For example, the application now sports a second selection window: this allows the user to have separate display areas for surface texture and colour pattern thumbnails if desired. The look and feel of each selection window can be altered to facilitate searching different library sizes. Textures and patterns imported to each selection window can be stored as collections and a recently used list is maintained by the application for easy recall. With regard to the 3D scene window, all relevant functionality is accessed directly from floating menus. The arcball control of orientation and light position has been increased to actual size to improve handling.

Introducing the Virtual Swatch

The repertoire of the t3D software suite has just been increased with the addition of a new feature called t3D-flash which facilitates digital content creation for texture: the virtual swatch. This software module extends the functionality of the t3D-designer application by enabling the output of image sequences in interactive Flash movie format. An html wrapper is also automatically generated with each movie so you're ready to communicate your designs via webpage, email or interactive pdf. The virtual swatch offers a speedy, cost effective means of sample distribution of your full product range,

3D Surface Recovery on a Flatbed Scanner

The Texture Lab at Heriot-Watt University announced the development of a software algorithm for height and colour recovery of real-world textures using a standard flatbed document scanner. The well-known online computer graphics magazine CG Channel ran an article about the technology on their front page. The article was picked up by other online magazines in countries such as China and Korea - indeed a version in Chinese is still available. The technology developed by the Texture Lab is to be commercialised by the Heriot-Watt spin-out Totallytextures.
